Parents: Learn about teen medicine abuse

Take Action in Your Community Today

Your school nurse is your ally and partner in preventing cough medicine abuse in your teens’ lives but so are your friends and community. Do you share information with your family and friends online? Are you active in your teens’ school, their team sports, or your religious community?  If so, you can play an important role in helping to prevent cough medicine abuse in teens’ lives. Here are some simple suggestions on what you can do to get your family, friends, and larger community involved:

  • Print out the Home to Homeroom brochure found on this page and share copies the next time you’re in a social situation with other concerned parents or peers.
  • Talk to your teens’ school nurse and find out more about what is being done in your school district and community.
  • Join the Stop Medicine Abuse community on Facebook.
  • Follow the Stop Medicine Abuse community on Twitter and encourage other parents you know to do so as well.
  • Learn other ways to take action with StopMedicineAbuse.org. There is a toolkit there, produced with the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, that can help you make information available to your neighbors and other parents in your community.
